Outer Banks Expeditions was started with a very modest goal in mind. Simply to become the foremost provider of environmental education and photographic instruction in the region. O.K., so in retrospect, the goal wasn’t really all that modest. But hey, lets face it – if its worth doing, its worth doing right. Right? Therefore we strive to offer you an unparalleled experience here on the Outer Banks, the surrounding areas, and soon the world! No, we are not planning on taking over the world like some sort of giant outdoors Starbucks or Google, but we are expanding our trips to the international level very soon.
What makes Outer Banks Expeditions different? When it comes to our wildlife expeditions, our emphasis on environmental education and professionalism are what sets us apart from the rest of the field. This means hands on learning and adventure experiences that allow you to explore your world with all your senses. Trip leaders have proven backgrounds as educators and professional naturalists with a diversity of knowledge to pull from. Whether it is barrier island ecology, the ethnobotany of Native Americans, or the deep cultural history that saturates this landscape, our guides are what makes the difference.
In regards to photo tours and workshops, all trip leaders are professional photographers with extensive lists of publication credits to their name. Workshop and tour leaders wield an exhaustive body of knowledge on the subjects they work with and the craft of photography itself. Not only are they professionals, but they also specialize in education as well. This gives you the opportunity to perfect your technical skills while learning the intimate details of your subjects natural history and how to use this to your benefit as a photographer. Know your subject – cliche or mantra, this is the key to both successful wildlife and landscape photography. There is no roadside shooting on these trips. Our workshops are designed to get you off the beaten path, out of your comfort zone, and immersed in what it takes to push your photography to the next level.
To offer our customers such high quality services, our staff naturalists, professional photographers, and guest biologists are the true backbone of this company. Without the variety of expertise that they are able to bring to the table, we would be just another run of the mill eco-tour company here. Instead, we accept only the best, and think you should expect the same.
