Kayak Photography 101

Of all the places along the North Carolina coast, it is the Crystal Coast that I love to photograph the most. Wild horses, oystercatchers, black skimmers, sea turtles, dolphins, intricate labyrinths of marshes, this place is an outdoor photographer’s dream. With miles and miles of unspoiled, undeveloped pristine barrier islands and a subtropical climate to back it up, there is really is no better way to experience and photograph this place than from the seat of a kayak. The lowered perspective, the access to areas boats cannot reach, and the ability to approach wildlife while keeping them at ease – this is why a kayak is my preferred photographic vehicle of choice.

On this one day skills intensive, you will learn the ins and outs of photographing from a kayak. Some of the topics that this course will cover include: boat stabilization, how to protect you gear while keeping it within reach, tripod rigging, big lens techniques, approaching wildlife, the impact of tides and food sources on wildlife and how to exploit this knowledge, and safety considerations. This workshop will focus heavily on the gear and techniques you will need in order to master this form of wildlife photography.

Don’t want to haul your kayak or canoe out to this workshop? No problem. I can arrange kayaks for your use while on this trip that match the style of boat you either have, or wish you had.

The cost of this workshop is $200

My Kayak Photography 101 is a skills intensive workshop and is available upon request.
